ART PROMPT: Preparing Pages for Painting sessions
Pre-prepare pages for your next Live, online drawing session.
Wondering if acrylic paint, mixed with gesso will give a similar surface to that of acrylic gouache, I played on a few pages of an upcycled / repurposed book before painting panels on my Art Creation Talen’s sketchbook.
Some of the materials I test to see if they layer well include:
Neocolour 2’s
Watercolour paint
Gansi Tambi
Ecoline Markers
Dry Pastel
Acrylic Paint Markers (Tooli)

‘Paint your peace & make magic’ my dear friend,

Such a juicy post! I think I’ll repurpose an old book as a sketchbook too - so fun! Also, that photo with the blue lids or whatever they are reminds me of a spoof project I have in my head, where I take photos of garbage I see floating in Lake Ontario and then give them scientific names (like if it’s a Tim Horton’s coffee cup the name could be “Caffinatus amphibious”)
Ah, that meditation was *exactly* what I needed. Eased a big knot in my stomach. Aaaaaahhhhh!
Your repurposed book/sketchbook sure turns out better than my first try did! I had a big old coffee table book, with glossy pages, which I gessoed. Not a good time. Would not recommend. It was probably the paper itself that was the problem. I can see how regular reading book paper might be better.
