🖌️JOURNAL PROMPTS | Whales | Sea Eagles | Creating Space | Posture for Painting
Art, Nature & Wellbeing Journal Prompts
Hello mid year!
Winter Solstice is nearing for us here in the Southern Hemisphere, but the weather is unusually warm.
The whales have begun their migration north to breed and I’ve been rearranging my space to allow for more ‘creative documenting’ of each season.
I will create a Thread in the Chat if you would like to upload photos of your art making space, or your nature journal - or even your favourite place in nature.
ART PROMPT: Create Sacred Space
Create or find a space in your environment where you can create the art that you want to.
Physical, mental, emotional and Spiritual space.
Side note:
Having been a High School Art teacher for too many years to mention, I have gathered a lot of supplies!
Honestly, having too much choice can be overwhelming and you end up doing nothing.
Start small. Keep it limited, is my suggestion (do as I say, not as I do?)
NATURE PROMPT: Explore, Gather, Arrange, Document.
Explore - Find sacred space / place in nature.
Gather - Collect objects (to draw or for a nature table), collect ideas.
You could make a Pinterest board like this one; Nature Journaling ideas from Pinterest: Nature Journaling
Arrange - make space for nature Journaling.
Arrange objects, images, colour palettes etc.
Document - photograph what you see in nature on a regular basis.
Write notes.

My ‘Traditional Mediums’ Nature Journal:
What I’ve learned so far:
🌟 Not to leave the things you love doing the most until last.
🌟Our lives are busy. Paint a bit at a time. Slow and steady.
🩷 I love combining traditional with digital.
🌟 Having lots of projects on the go is good - but I need a plan!
WELLBEING PROMPT: Posture for Painting
If you spend a lot of time at your computer or painting at your desk like I do, posture is something we need to pay attention to (especially as we get older).
I really like this movement; The Teacup, by Yoga teacher, Sherry Zak Morris. It’s a great movement snack (a quick movement break between tasks).
I also quite liked this video; Yoga for Artists - Shoulder Exploration by Maggie Lasko

Other places we can connect:
So nice to see you Sam and your studio looks like those art spaces on magazines 😍 beautiful! I tend to use limited supplies, it really helps on decisions, but it's nice go have options or to change supplies every now and then 🤭
Your studio space is a dream! And I agree with using limited supplies at a time but love that I have options
